Service Description
At Thornwood Schools, children ages 6–12 are invited into a magical world of animal folklore, storytelling, and imaginative play in this creative introduction to theater and drama. Inspired by folk tales, woodland creatures, trickster animals, fables, and nature myths from around the world, campers will spend the week bringing stories to life through acting, costume-making, puppetry, movement, and collaborative performance. Throughout the course, students will explore the basics of theater in a playful and supportive environment while building confidence, creativity, communication skills, and teamwork. Campers will participate in improv games, character-building activities, storytelling circles, puppet theater, simple stagecraft, and short skits inspired by animal legends and folklore traditions. Children will also create their own costume pieces, masks, props, and puppets using a variety of handmade and folk art techniques. Each camper will have opportunities to invent characters, act out scenes, and help create original performances alongside their fellow students. The week will conclude with a small informal showcase performance where families can enjoy a collection of skits, puppet shows, storytelling performances, and theatrical creations developed by the campers throughout the week. No prior theater experience is required. All materials are included.
